We've Outgrown Our Pants Already!
Tuesday, May 11, 2010 by aerobic1

Hello fellow TAers,

We have maxed our database size limit with our host, and we are in the process of acquiring more DB space. When we get this finalized, hopefully this week, the Website should re-allow uploading, updating descriptions, and also do away with all the errors that have been generated. We appreciate your patience.

OK..a little clarification.
Monday, May 03, 2010 by aerobic1

Ok...it was in the middle of the night and I wasn't being too clear in my last announcement. Since a couple of people were wondering what is going on with the site logs I will clarify. Our goal is to automate the ENTIRE purging process. Most of it is already automated if not already turned off entirely, but there are a couple of things we need to add to the scheduler. Until this is complete...I was only saying I'll be taking care of it myself.

She's Prrrrrrrr-ing Like a Kitten Again
Sunday, May 02, 2010 by aerobic1

Hello all...I've done some cleanup and a little reorganizing in the database and the site seems to be running well again. As N72 stated already, you may get random "out of space" errors in regard to the database while you're uploading or accessing various pages. The main issue is driven by the log files filling up, and we will continually try and keep them purged so the site doesn't crash. We can't watch the site 24 hours a day, but we'll keep everything running for you the best we can.

Long Live TA!!

Still not perfect...

You may stumble upon some strange error messages every once in a while when using the site... usually about not being able to allocate space to some database object, etc... We still have to fiddle around and solve a lot of little problems that unfortunately come with the launch of such a large website. We're all pretty busy though so don't expect anything to happen quickly...

Some more technical difficulties
Wednesday, April 28, 2010 by N72

We had to take the site down again for a completely different reason... I fixed the problem but it might happen again (if it does the site we won't take the site down again, but you'll get an error message if you try to download a file) so we are investigating how to prevent it from happening again...

Slight technical difficulties

We had to take the site down for a couple of hours, as some of you may have noticed. There was some one-time maintenance work that had to be done. We had to rebuild the database, so unfortunately all the descriptions that I had done were lost. We should be able to dig them out of backups and restore them... anyway, everything is fixed and ready to go now.

Welcome to FileUniverse!
Saturday, April 24, 2010 by N72

Welcome to a brand new FileUniverse, ready to satisfy your insatiable and disgusting appetite for thousands of the most useless files ever assembled on the Internet.

The FileUniverse database is now bigger than ever and the largest Total Annihilation database in history. The current database weighs in at 27.9 GB of files and I still haven't even gotten around to uploading about 400 unsorted maps from the old FileUniverse or any TA: Kingdoms files. The database is very up-to-date - you'll find all the latest releases including some missions that were just released a few days ago. Numerous other fixes and additions have been made... you'll just have to browse the site and see what you find. You could start in the Official Content section, where the TA soundtrack is available in lossless FLAC audio format for the first time, as well as 320kbps MP3.

In addition to the countless mods, utilities, patches, and other files, the database also includes thousands of maps - the largest collection of maps ever, in fact, containing everything from the old FileUniverse (except those 400 unsorted maps, which will be uploaded soon), TAMEC, and numerous other web sites from all over the internet. The TAMEC database has not yet been properly sorted and assimilated into the main library (that's going to take a while), but the entire TAMEC DVDs are available for download. Visit the TAMEC DVDs page in the Maps section for more information.

Of course, we still don't have everything, and that's where you come in. FileUniverse now supports user uploading of files up to 100 MB. If for some reason you need to upload an even larger file, don't worry, just ask on the forum and we'll make it happen.

You'll notice little mail icons next to files. Registered users can track files or folders... that way you can get email updates whenever the latest version of your favorite mod is released or your favorite mapmaker has created something new. In addition to notifiying you of new files (if you are tracking an entire folder), you'll also be notified of changes to existing files.

There is still a lot of work that needs to be done on the site, if we can be bothered to do it that is. Mod pages need to be updated with actual information about the mods. The vast majority of files still need to be tagged with descriptions. In addition to descriptions, the maps need minimap previews. More information about all this will come later, for now we can just be happy with the fact that it's all there for download.

That's pretty much it for now. Hopefully most were able to survive the one-month downtime... Well, enjoy the new FileUniverse!

Brought to you by N72, Aero, BlueWolf, PhalanX, DannyU, and TheRegisteredOne. Special thanks to macraig for providing the TAMEC DVDs.
